Who Is Peter Kington

Ever wondered how someone who grew up with a dogs called Sox & Pots, went to the same primary school as the Bee Gees and used to come home from pre-school and play by ear, on the piano, the same songs his teacher played or....

Enrolled in Australia's best acupuncture course, studying and practicing in China and developing an interest in natural fertility and pregnancy?

Well, that's my life story in a nutshell.  But for those of you who want the details, read on below...

---------------

I developed an interest in Chinese medicine back in the 1980s when my father had a frozen shoulder and it was acupuncture that helped him get back on track.

From that experience I began using complementary therapies and progressively started to think I could see myself working in that field.

In my late 20s and faced with a desperate need to change career, I decided to study Chinese medicine.

I already held BA and MLitt degrees, so studying Health Science was quite a change of field for me, but one I instantly felt at home with.

The highlight of my degree was being able to spend six weeks in China working and studying as an intern in a major Chinese medicine hospital.  It was, as they say, a life changing experience.

I started my professional life as a Oriental Massage therapist at at clinic in New Farm, but found myself eventually settling in Red Hill - where I have worked since 2004 (and ironically just around the corner from the house where my father was born).

My interest in the treatment of gynaecology, fertility and pregnancy stemmed from my early days of clinical practice when I helped a delightful couple, who were using IVF, fall pregnant.

That interest was not only clinical, but also academic and I began the process of absorbing as much information as I could about gynaecology, fertility and pregnancy.

I have sinced read widely, practiced extensively and studied under the great Chinese medicine luminaries like Jayne Lyttleton, Bob Flaws and Debra Betts - known experts in the field of Chinese medicine Gyanecology and Obstetrics.

My proudest achievement as a clinician is the satisfaction that comes with having helped countless men and woman become parents or see a resolution to their difficult gynaecological, pregnancy or fertility related health challenge.

I regularly attend seminars and when I'm not working as a clinician I teach Chinese medicine theory (including gynaecology and obstetrics) to undergraduate students at the Endeavour College of Natural Health.

As a past time I love to travel and develop my keen interest in all things Asia.  Since studying in China I have returned and visited a Chinese medicine and acupuncture clinic in Kunming which specialises in women's health.  My travels have taken me all over Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France and South East Asia.
